Immanuel Baptist Church was organized on Oct. 22, 1961, to minister to the English-language community of Madrid. The church received pastoral support from the International Mission Board (IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention until 2002. During its first twenty-five years, IBC was the church home of hundreds of mostly US military personnel, as well as international diplomats and businessmen. Today IBC is church home of people from over 35 nations with different ethnic backgrounds and a vast variety of personal and professional experience who enjoy worshipping in English in a truly international church with fellow Christians from other continents and denominations. Multiple ministries serve to connect people and help them grow in Christ and minister to others. After originally meeting in a rented building for five years, the current property (which was a hunting lodge built in 1910 that belonged to the family of Alfonso XIII) was purchased and renovated. Immanuel was one of the first evangelical churches in Spain allowed to post a sign in 1964 during the Franco regime. Educational space was added in 1967, and the entire building was remodeled in 2001 after the roof caved in, aided by a grant from the International Baptist Convention. IBC pastors:
