Our Spanish context

Spain has a population of over 46 million. Most people are nominally Roman Catholic, but for the majority, this is as far as it goes. The present social climate is characterized by secularism, postmodernism and moral decline. Drug addiction, broken marriage, high abortion rate and religious indifference are pronounced in Spanish society.

Though evangelical churches have been growing steadily since dictator Franco’s death in 1975 and the democratization of the country, still 92% of Spanish municipalities have no evangelical church. Today’s evangelical population is estimated at over 400,000.

In the past ten years, over 5 million immigrants have flooded into Spain, overwhelming not only communities, but also local churches.  In light of these developments, IBC faces a great challenge and a huge opportunity to reach people from many nations and diverse cultural backgrounds for Christ.
