Vacation Bible School was a six-day event this year at the end of June. The theme was Power Lab and our church was converted into a science laboratory. Over 100 children aged 3-12 from around 20 countries were challenged to let God empower their lives. The morning started with enthusiastic singing and skits as the day's theme and key teaching were presented by Silly Scientist Sehan. Several sizzling experiments were used to demonstate God's power in the natural world and in the spiritual realm. Then we went to our various rotations. The 'Hyperspeed Games' were fast and furious, the crafts were super creative in the 'Craft and Mission' station, where we all made tie-dye T-shirts which we wore on Sunday. At Cinema Science we watched an exciting DVD and 'Professor Alright Albright' let us participate in some hands-on experiments. We learnt the Bible verse and talked about its application. In 'Test Tube Treats' the kids made some tricky snacks that doubled-up as visual aids for the Bible verse. Bible stories of key people who were empowered by God, like Peter when he walked on water or the blind man who was healed, were presented in drama format in Bible Blast. The morning concluded with everyone back in the sanctuary for the Faith Fusion Finale to sing and review the day's lessons.
One special project of the week was to collect an offering for the Simon Bolivar school in the Dominican Republic. Another was to bring food to share with needy families in Madrid.
It takes many people to organize and lead all the activities of VBS. We want to thank again our leadership team, our faithful youth, our summer intern, and the visiting students from Baylor University, who worked together to make this a memorable week of fun and learning for our international children at IBC. We also thank all the church members who contributed food and supplies and prayed for this special event in the life of our church. VBS is traditionally held the last week of June and is open to our community.
